Sr. Robert Clare Groth and Sr. Carol Ann Smith
2015-2016 Lancer Legacy
Since 1882, when it first opened its doors to the children of Wheaton and surrounding communities, St. Michael Parish School has been blessed by the presence of nuns on its staff. The Sisters of St. Francis came first, followed by the Sisters of Notre Dame.
Those who were blessed to know Sr. Carol Ann Smith as principal of St. Michael School from 1995-2004, recall a smiling person who always looked on the bright side of every situation. Sr. Carol Ann recently celebrated her 50th Jubilee in the religious life.
Those second graders who attended St. Michael School between 1991 and 2004 and were fortunate enough to have Sr. Robert Clare, remember a firm, yet nurturing teacher with a twinkle in her eye and a genuine love in her heart for her students. Sr. Robert Clare retired last June after 57 years teaching elementary school.
Sr. Robert Clare and Sr. Carol Ann touched the lives of hundreds of students during their time as second grade teacher and principal. Thank you for attending the Blue and Gold Gala and helping us to honor the sisters’ service and dedication and celebrate the legacy of the Sisters of Notre Dame at St. Michael Parish School.
Since 1882, St. Michael Parish School has served families in Wheaton and the surrounding neighborhoods through providing excellent faith based education, for children preschool through eight grade. Philanthropic support allows us to continue this tradition and gives our students and teachers the tools they need in an environment that promotes love, kindness & respect.
